MY APPROACH TO THERAPY
I have been a therapist for 25 years and a licensed psychologist since 2012. My PhD is in Medical Clinical Psychology. I’ve had lots of time to sort out what works best in therapy, and to master treatment methods that are both effective and humane. And I never ask a client to do something I haven’t tried myself.
My psychotherapy approach is grounded in:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Health psychology
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and Attachment-Focused EMDR
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
When we first start meeting, I will help you understand what is happening in your mind, body and spirit through psychoeducation. I believe half the battle in therapy is giving people a firm foundation of understanding why they are reacting the way they do—and it’s not because you’re crazy or because stuff is all in your head. Your BODY and nervous system are driving your behavior, thoughts and emotions. Once we understand your unique experiences from this framework, we can begin to make choices about how to move forward with greater peace, agency, and serenity in your daily life.
In sessions I am authentic, genuine, warm, and compassionate. I am respectfully direct, speaking to people the way I wish to be spoken to. People find me easy to talk to and describe feeling trust and safety in our connection. And I am practical, rolling up my sleeves and quickly getting to work on concerns that affect your daily wellbeing.
